Fox News’ Chris Wallace Confronts Incoming Chief of Staff Mulvaney For Calling Trump’s Wall ‘Childish’

Fox News anchor Chris Wallace confronted incoming acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney on Sunday over newly resurfaced comments the former congressman made criticizing Donald Trump‘s proposed border wall.

Wallace aired Mulvaney’s 2015 comments in their interview on Fox News Sunday, unearthed this week by CNN.

“The fence doesn’t solve the problem. Is it necessary to have one? Sure. Would it help? Sure. But just to say build the darn fence and that be the end of the immigration discussion is absurd and almost childish for someone running for president to take that simplistic a view.”

“If building a wall is childish and simplistic as a solution for the immigration problem, why is it worth shutting down the government?” Wallace asked Mulvaney.

“It has to be part of a comprehensive –,” Mulvaney replied.

“But it isn’t,” Wallace interjected. “You’re not saying it’s part of a comprehensive immigration plan.”

“A border wall is necessary,” Mulvaney said. “A border is absolutely necessary, which is why we’re having the battle.”

“We need a comprehensive solution and a border barrier, steel-slat fence, has to be part of that,” he added.
