Fox News denied House Oversight Committee chairman James Comer’s “insulting” suggestion that anchor Steve Doocy colluded with his FBI agent daughter to provide negative coverage of him, Monday.
In his new book All the President’s Money, Comer suggested that he started to be critically covered on Fox News after he irritated Doocy’s daughter, FBI assistant general counsel, during his investigation into President Joe Biden.
Comer wrote that his “hasty return” of a heavily-redacted document to the FBI “seemed to piss” the Fox News anchor’s daughter off, and that he soon began to receive critical coverage from her father, as well as her brother, Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy.
“Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but her father, ‘Fox & Friends’ host Steve Doocy, and her brother, Fox White House correspondent Peter Doocy, would soon become my biggest critics on Fox News for the remainder of the investigation,” wrote Comer. “And they didn’t let up off camera either. Many of the White House videos criticizing me, and many of the legacy media outlets’ false narratives citing disparaging comments about me and the investigation, were from the Doocys.”
Fox News denied the suggestion in a statement to Oliver Darcy’s Status newsletter on Monday, calling the notion “insulting” and “off base.”
“The first time Steve Doocy and Peter Doocy were even made aware of what took place in the SCIF with James Comer was tonight when they saw this book excerpt which speaks volumes about how scrupulous they are and the high ethical bar their family operates with,” claimed the network. “Suffice it to say Comer’s attack is off base and insulting.”
Darcy noted that Comer was on Fox News to promote his book, Monday – the same day that the network hit back – and questioned whether the congressman would be allowed back on in the near future.
