Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera: ‘I Think That This Whole Immigrant Crisis Is Manufactured’

Fox News correspondent Geraldo Rivera sparred with host Sean Hannity Thursday night, saying “this immigrant crisis is manufactured.”

“I think it’s an overreaction to the so-called caravan of 1,000 that is now broken up in the southern city around Puebla,” he said. “They are seeking asylum.”

Rivera made the comments in response to Hannity’s assertion that immigrants “crossed the border, the weak borders and raped Americans,” echoing the comments of President Donald Trump who is amplifying his claims that “caravans” of people are crossing the border, engaging in rape and violent crime.

Asked by Hannity how he could believe that, Rivera said there wasn’t a doubt in his mind.

“I say it with absolute certainty,” he remarked. “Illegal immigration across the southern border is near 46-year lows. We had a spike in March, probably having to do with the demand for agricultural workers.”

The ambiguous ‘caravan’ has become a buzzword in recent days, appearing in Frontpage Mag, a conservative site run by David Horowitz which carried a story headlined, “Mysterious group deploys “caravan” of illegal aliens headed for US border.” From there, Fox’s Brian Kilmeade further promoted the narrative of immigrant criminals, saying they were infiltrating Long Island and joining MS-13. Throughout the week, the claims have spun out of control, eventually being exacerbated by the president’s remarks Thursday.
