Fox News Host Laughs As Tim Burchett Praises ‘Honest’ Mike Johnson For Not Cheating On His Wife
Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) drew laughter from Fox News host Edward Lawrence while praising embattled House Speaker Mike Johnson as an “honest” politician while seemingly taking aim at other politicians by dryly commending him for not having cheated on his wife.
On Friday, the first day of the new session, the House of Representatives will convene to decide who will lead them going forward. Johnson, who has held the Speaker’s post since October 2023, finds himself under scrutiny from fellow Republicans for having collaborated with Democrats on a bipartisan funding measure earlier this month.
With only a narrow Republican majority in the House, Johnson has limited room for dissent. He cannot afford more than two defections from his own party if he hopes to remain Speaker. President-elect Donald Trump backed Johnson’s bid to retain the House Speaker’s gavel on Monday, just days before the vote.
Appearing on Your World on Monday night, the host asked Burchett for his thoughts on Johnson and whether he will keep his position. Burchett replied:
I think he ultimately will. I think that the die has been cast pretty much. But as I stated I will make up my mind on Friday and I will talk to Mike, maybe President Trump even and to discuss some ideas and issues that I have. But Mike’s been a good friend to me and there is nobody more honest that I have dealt with in Washington. He is a fine Christian man, not a religious man, he is a Christian man. He doesn’t cheat on his wife and I find that very appealing in Washington DC.
Lawrence laughed out loud in response.
Burchett’s apparent jibe at Beltway politicians comes after three of Trump’s nominees – Pete Hegseth, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Matt Gaetz – have come under scrutiny over allegations of sexual misconduct. Gaetz later rescinded his nomination following mounting pressure over his alleged actions.
