Fox’s Larry Kudlow Declares ‘Trump’s Art of the Deal in Full Swing’ Right After Dow Closes Down 1,000 Points

Fox Business host Larry Kudlow began his show on Thursday by saying President Donald Trump’s “art of the deal” is in effect, just seconds after markets closed deeply in the red on the day.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average shed 1,015 points (2.5%) while the S&P and NASDAQ suffered even steeper slides. Just a day earlier, markets soared on Trump’s announcement that he was lowering tariffs on dozens of countries. At the close of Wednesday’s market surge, Fox News and Fox Business hosts took victory laps, praising the president after he claimed that 75 countries – which the White House declined to name – said they want to negotiate.

That exuberance was short-lived, as the massive tariffs remain, including a 145% figure on imports from China and 10% on goods from most countries.

“Hello, folks,” Kudlow greeted viewers. “So, Trump’s art of the deal in full swing. [National Economic Council] Director Kevin Hassett says the U.S. has two deals almost closed. Fifteen have put actual offers on the table.”

Some conservative commentators and officials pointed to Wednesday’s rally as a sort of proof of concept of The Art of the Deal, the 1987 book by Trump and Tony Schwartz.

“Art of the Deal: Trump Tariff Pause,” a Breitbart headline read on Wednesday. “Friendly Nations Down to 10% While We Negotiate… China Rate Cranked Up to 125%… Stocks Soar Immediately… World Unites Against CCP.” Meanwhile, White House adviser Stephen Miller hailed “Trump’s master strategy, bold statesmanship and brilliant tactical planning.”
