Greg Gutfeld Says Media Coverage Led to Kyle Rittenhouse Shooting: They ‘Excused the Rampant Violence’

Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld said Wednesday that the media coverage of the Jacob Blake police shooting is what led to Kyle Rittenhouse going to Kenosha, where he shot two individuals and injured a third.

Rittenhouse’s trial is currently underway, and his legal team has argued he acted in self-defense. Prosecutors were fiercely scolded by the judge on Wednesday for the scope of their questioning.

As The Five reacted to Rittenhouse’s testimony, Gutfeld said, “The media coverage of the Jacob Blake thing led to this.”

“What they did was they excused the rampant violence, they cheered the reduction of police, and what did it do?” he asked. “It creates a void. Who fills that void? Sometimes thugs do, but other times, well-meaning citizens who have had enough.”

“That is the story that is old as time, that when there is no police, you become the policeman, hence the reason why you have cops.”

He returned to hitting the media a minute later after mocking Jeffrey Toobin over his own commentary.

Gutfeld said other media outlets have “deliberately block[ed]” relevant information from their audiences, and suggested that might lead to riots if Rittenhouse is acquitted:

If he is acquitted, you’re going to have the same thing where people go, “Oh, my God, white guy! White guy acquitted, he can do whatever he wants!” Even though he shot white people, doesn’t matter, because our media is interested in the racial divide more than anything… And then what’s going to happen is you’re going to have the activist class, egged on by the media once again at CNN, saying “It is time to scream and yell, and yes, restorative justice can take the shape of looting and arson.”

“‘That’s because,'” the Fox host concluded, “‘we are now in the business of misinforming the public to create conflict.'”
