‘I Won’t Support It!’ Hardline Republicans Slam Mike Johnson For ‘Disappointing’ Israel-Ukraine Aid Bill

Hardline House Republicans slammed Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for pushing a “disappointing” aid bill for Israel and Ukraine.

On Wednesday, Johnson said he would move forward with funding for Ukraine and Israel along with other overseas allies in a series of bills set to divide the Republican caucus. The total aid package, which will consist of four bills, will provide $95 billion for U.S. allies with the final piece of legislation scheduled for Saturday evening.

CNN congressional correspondent Manu Raju asked Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Eli Crane (R-AZ), Thomas Massie (R-KY) on whether they would support Johnson’s effort to fund Israel following last week’s attack by Iran.

“I met for hours last night and proposed different paths for the speaker that would have avoided the abject surrender represented by his strategic choice here. There’s no other way to describe it. Surrender. It’s disappointing. I won’t support it,” Gaetz told Raju.

“It’s disappointing. It’s completely detached from what our base wants. What what what our voters want,” Crane added.

Meanwhile, Massie noted that Johnson’s strategy appears to “not to try” and instead “fall on his sword.”

The anger from House Republicans comes as Johnson faces a motion to vacate from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) after the passage of a $1.2 trillion spending package. Some Democratic lawmakers have vowed to protect Johnson from a ouster vote to avoid further chaos in House leadership.
