Jake Tapper Blasts Elon Musk’s Juvenile ‘Harry Bolz’ Username: ‘I’m Not Offended, It’s Just Stupid’
CNN’s Jake Tapper criticized Elon Musk for a “juvenile” screen name he briefly used on X Tuesday during an interview on The Lead with Kara Swisher.
Tapper concluded he was not in any way “offended” by the stunt but did not understand the rationale behind it.
He and Swisher discussed Musk’s Trump White House role and his antics – including temporarily changing his X name to “Harry Bolz.” Tapper asked Swisher about her experiences with the Tesla CEO and other billionaires as a veteran tech business reporter.
Tapper asked, “A lot of these these folks, these tech billionaires, are any of them happy?” Swisher replied:
I don’t know, a couple of them. I think Tim Cook’s happy. I don’t know. Satya Nadella seems happy. I think the ones that act like adults are happy. Absolutely. But, you know, what Musk does it sort of – he’s 53 years old now at this point, and he sort of engages in memes, dank names and stupid jokes and things like that. So the ones that haven’t progressed beyond, I don’t know, 12-year-olds emotionally, I think have a problem. And so they have insecurity.
While explaining his temporary X username Tuesday, Musk wrote, “One of the things USAID was doing was offering free circumcisions throughout the world, but charging US taxpayers ridiculously high prices! I decided to compete for the business.”
While addressing Swisher, Tapper pointed to Musk’s X handle change.
“Yeah, he changed his Twitter ID to like a juvenile joke earlier today,’ the CNN anchor said. “I mean I’m not offended, It’s just stupid.”
Swisher concluded Musk often engaged in “performative” stunts but was “deep down” a very “strategic” person.
