Maggie Haberman Details ‘Erratic’ Trump Outburst At Mega-Donor Left Campaign In Panicked ‘Mess’
New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman revealed details of how former President Donald Trump’s latest outburst at Republican media donor Miriam Adelson has left his advisors scrambling to mend ties and thrown his campaign into disarray.
The former president’s blunt texts to Adelson, wife of the late Trump supporting donor Sheldon Adelson, sent via his aide Natalie Harp, accused her Preserve America PAC of being run by “RINOS.” The attack reportedly has caused a rift that Trump’s team is now urgently trying to repair. Haberman and Jonathan Swan published a detailed report of the past three weeks of the Trump campaign, which have not gone well according to many advisors.
Just last week, leaked texts from Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, revealed him crudely dismissing Adleson’s late husband.
Haberman detailed the ongoing episode during a CNN interview with host Kaitlan Collins on Wednesday night.
One of the people running it is Governor [Greg] Abbott of Texas, as adviser, saying he’s not a RINO, saying her husband never would have tolerated it.
This caused a lot of concern that she was going to scale back her giving. Her advisers found out that Ike Perlmutter, the former chairman of Marvel Entertainment, who is a Trump ally and is involved in a different Super PAC had been g-ing up these attacks against her.
It’s a mess and it’s a mess that the Trump world would like to not be dealing with. She will be at Bedminster tomorrow. They are going to meet privately. Clearly, it’s not impacting her giving, but this is not a story that any candidate wants to be dealing with.
The former president’s rage seems to reflect his broader frustration with recent campaign setbacks. Haberman noted that Trump’s “anger is seeping out,” leading to “erratic behavior that people around him are seeing during times of stress.”
She said the behavior has only complicated his team’s efforts to keep the campaign focused and disciplined.
