Morning Joe Ridicules Twitter CEO Interview: ‘Jack Dorsey Call Your Media Trainer’
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey sat down for an interview with NBC News’ Lester Holt to discuss his decision to suspend Alex Jones’ account, and Morning Joe was not impressed.
Dorsey explained that the seven day “timeout” given to Jones will could encourage him to “think” about his actions.
“Any suspension — whether it be a permanent suspension or a temporary one — makes someone think about their actions, and their behaviors,” Dorsey said.
Morning Joe was unconvinced. “Jack Dorsey call your media trainer,” John Heilemann snarked. “That’s just a horrible performance… He just sounds so kind of dopey in responding to this. And the question is the right question. Alex Jones has created an incredibly profitable, lucrative media empire built on conspiracy theory and hate mongering. The idea a week’s long time-out is going to change his incentive structure is ridiculous.”
“The Dorsey argument that by giving Alex Jones a week time-out, that that could change his behavior is just absurd,” he added.
Alex Jones is not an eight grader who got busted smoking in the bathroom,” MSNBC’s Kacie Hunt said. “He’s a guy who was fueling alt-right conspiracy theories.”
Commentary writer Noah Rothman argued driving Jones “underground doesn’t make him go away.”
Rothman continued that journalists should seek to debunk the theories of Jones: “I’m afraid that by offloading, by outsourcing this job, the job of journalists, to media companies like Twitter and Facebook, is absolving us of the responsibility of doing the work that we need to do.”
