NatSec Advisor Says Elon Musk Is Probing Major Security Leak: ‘We Have the Best Technical Minds Looking at How This Happened’
National Security Advisor Mike Waltz went on Fox News on Tuesday after he was at the epicenter of an embarrassing accidental leak to Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic. Waltz said not to worry because Elon Musk is on the case.
On Monday morning, Goldberg published a wild report on how Waltz requested to connect with him on Signal, an encrypted messaging app. Two days later, Goldberg was added to a group chat with other prominent security officials in the Trump administration, including Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. Goldberg suddenly found himself observing exchanges about possible bombings in Yemen targeting Houthi rebels, which were ultimately carried out on Saturday.
“I will not quote from this update, or from certain other subsequent texts,” Goldberg wrote. “What I will say, in order to illustrate the shocking recklessness of this Signal conversation, is that the Hegseth post contained operational details of forthcoming strikes on Yemen, including information about targets, weapons the U.S. would be deploying, and attack sequencing.”
Waltz appeared on Tuesday’s edition of The Ingraham Angle, where he re-upped his attacks on Goldberg, who he suggested hacked or cajoled his way into the group chat.
“How did a Trump-hating editor of The Atlantic end up on your Signal chat?” Laura Ingraham asked.
“You know, Laura, I’m not a conspiracy theorist,” Waltz replied. “But of all the people out there, somehow this guy who has lied about the president, who has lied to Gold Star families, lied to their attorneys, and gone to Russia hoax, gone to all kinds of lengths to lie and smear the president of the United States and he’s the one that somehow gets on somebody’s contact and then gets sucked into this group.”
Ingraham responded by pointing to “scuttlebutt” and asked if someone on Waltz’s team is in hot water, and the national security advisor replied, “No.”
He then explained that he had just spoken with Musk, a White House adviser, who is supposedly now on the case:
So they want to focus on this. It’s embarrassing, yes. We’re going to get to the bottom of it. We have– I just talked to Elon on the way here. We’ve got the best technical minds looking at how this happened. But I can tell you, I can tell you for 100% I don’t know this guy. I know him by his horrible reputation and he really is the bottom scum of journalists. And I know him in the sense that he hates the president. And I don’t text him. He wasn’t on my phone and we’re gonna figure out how this happened.
