Pete Hegseth Pulls Mark Milley’s Security Detail – ‘Though Multiple Threats Remain on His Life’

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has revoked the security detail of retired Gen. Mark Milley, who served as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Presidents Donald Trump and Joe Biden, Fox News reported on Tuesday.

Hegseth also ordered another one of Milley’s portraits removed from Army halls and instructed the acting inspector general of the Department of Defense to investigate Milley for potentially “undermining the chain of command” in Trump’s first term.

Fox News Chief National Security Correspondent Jennifer Griffin was the first to report Hegseth’s order. Appearing on Tuesday’s Special Report, she said:

Secretary Hegseth has decided on his second day to immediately pull General Milley’s security detail though multiple threats on his life remain. [White House Press Secretary] Karoline Leavitt was asked today if the president would take responsibility if anything happened to those whose security he has pulled.

The president has said former government officials can’t have security forever. Hegseth also ordered a second Milley Army portrait removed from the army halls and ordered the new acting inspector general to conduct a review board to potentially strip General Milley of a star in retirement for, quote, “undermining the chain of command during President Donald Trump’s first term.” All highly unusual actions.

Milley drew Trump’s ire after it was reported that the general was in contact with Chinese officials shortly after the 2020 election, which Trump lost. The general sought to reassure them that the U.S. would not attack China amid Trump’s madcap efforts to overturn the election. Former Secretary of Defense Mark Esper, who served in Trump’s first term, defended Milley’s actions.

Trump has gone so far as to suggest Milley be executed for “treason.”
