Philadelphia Mayor Rips Sarah Sanders For Attacking Eagles: ‘She Lies From That Podium Every Day’
The mayor of Philadelphia Jim Kenney called White House press secretary Sarah Sanders a liar for her statement claiming the Philadelphia Eagles bailed on the customary Super Bowl champion White House visit as part of “a political stunt” against the administration.
“What do you think the percentage of the White House press corps who sits in that room every day listening to Sarah Sanders––what percentage do you think believe [she’s] telling the truth?” Kenney asked while appearing on CNN with Erin Burnett. “She lies from that podium every day, so I have really no reason to believe she’s telling the truth on that one.”
Kenney also noted that the national anthem controversy comes down to free speech.
“It’s about respecting the First Amendment, it’s also about understanding people’s experiences in this country,” he said. “When I hear the national anthem, I stand at attention, I cover my heart, but I’m a white man with privilege. A lot of people in country have not had the same privilege that I have because of their race or because of their ethnicity.”
The mayor has launched an anti-Trump tour of sorts after the president’s attacks on his city’s NFL team, even calling him a “tyrant.”
“Cities need to stand up in this country, and many mayors have stood up in this country against this tyrant,” Kenney said while appearing on CBSN today. “He is trying to turn this country into a dictatorship by ignoring the courts and by saying and doing what he wants, by ignoring the Department of Justice … and in the end this will all come to a conclusion, and it won’t be a good ending for him.”
