Rep. Adam Schiff Says He is ‘Absolutely’ Prepared to Sue Trump Administration Over Mueller Report
On This Week on Sunday, host George Stephanopoulos spoke with chair of the House intel committee Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) about the semi-imminent release of the special counsel’s report from the Russian collusion investigation. Schiff said he’s prepared to sue the administration over the release of the report.
Stephanopoulos asked Schiff what options are available to Congress if the underlying evidence and the full report from the Special Counsel’s office are not released, or if they refuse to release it.
“We will obviously subpoena the report, we will bring Bob Mueller in to testify before Congress, we will take it to court if necessary,” said Schiff. “In the end, I think the [Justice] Department understands they’re going to have to make it public.”
He said that if new Attorney General Bob Barr “were to try to withhold, to try to bury and part of this report, that will be his legacy, and it will be a tarnished legacy.”
“I think there will be immense pressure, not only on the Department, but on the Attorney General to be forthcoming,” said Schiff.
“You’re talking about public pressure,” said Stephanopoulos. “Are you prepared to take the administration to court?”
“Absolutely,” Schiff replied. “We are going to get to the bottom of this, we are going to share this information with the public, and if the president is serious about all of his claims of exoneration, then he should welcome the publication of this report.”
In addition to questions about how much will be made public, the question of whether the White House should be allowed to release a lengthy simultaneous “rebuttal” to Mueller’s report was under debate on ABC’s This Week on Sunday.
