Tapper Calls Out Sarah Sanders: ‘One of The Most Shocking Things I’ve Ever Heard From That Podium’
On this Friday’s edition of The Lead with Jake Tapper, Tapper spent no time in blasting the latest comments from Sarah Huckabee Sanders at today’s White House press briefing.
In particular, Tapper and Jeff Zeleny took issue with Sarah Huckabee Sanders telling a reporter who rightfully dared to question Gen. John Kelly’s comments at yesterday’s press conference that questioning him would be “highly inappropriate.” This is even after video came out to contradict Kelly’s claims about Rep. Wilson the day earlier.
While it might not always be a good idea to get into a battle of truths with a Four-Star general, the response from Huckabee-Sanders––like Jeff Sessions‘ two days earlier––came off very strange, especially the given the president’s own history of publicly questioning generals. Tapper had this to say about the exchange when introducing Zeleny:
When a reporter pointed out just minutes ago that Kelly had gotten his facts wrong about this speech, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said one of the most shocking things I’ve ever heard from that podium—she suggested that journalists cannot question generals. That’s not how we do it here in the United States.
From there, Tapper and Zeleny proceeded to break down the exchange further, airing a package compiling a highlight reel of the controversy. Overall, if you have been out of the loop with this ugly news cycle, it’s worth a watch.
