Tesla Stockholder Dave Portnoy Tells Fox Elon Musk Should Answer Same DOGE Email He Sent Federal Workers As Stock Drops
Barstool Sports founder and Tesla stockholder Dave Portnoy argued Elon Musk should answer the same email sent to federal employees by his Department of Government Efficiency demanding they provide evidence of accomplishments.
Musk earned pushback from critics after DOGE sent an email to federal workers asking them to put in writing what it is that they do and are working on. The email is part of Musk’s larger plan for sweeping cuts in the federal budget and workforce.
Portnoy joined Fox Business’ Stuart Varney on Friday and expressed some frustration over Tesla stock falling amid Musk’s focus on DOGE. Tesla stock has fallen more than 20% in a month as Musk has taken a hands on role in President Donald Trump’s administration, Varney reported.
Check out the exchange below:
STUART VARNEY: “Do you think maybe Musk is too busy with Doge? And that’s why Tesla is down so much?”
DAVE PORTNOY: “So I’m a big stockholder of Tesla and I certainly raise my eyebrows. I like Doge. I like what they’re doing. But let me tell you this. If you’re going to send out — and you got to call it both ways — if you’re going to send emails to federal workers and say, what have you done for the last five days? I think Tesla shareholders are entitled to ask their CEO, Elon Musk, what have you done for Tesla the last five days? I mean, it’s seemingly all he cares about right now is DOGE. Now, it could be coincidence that the stock is down 25% since he really started this? I guess. But I think it’s fair, as a shareholder of Tesla, to say, what are you doing for Tesla shareholders now? Maybe you’re greasing the wheels and you’ll get some deals through the government, I don’t know, but it’s certainly inbounds to ask Elon Musk. What are you doing for Tesla right now.”
