Toobin Rails Against ‘Extraordinary Political Coward’ Jeff Flake: ‘Gave Nauseating’ Kavanaugh Speech
CNN legal analyst and writer Jeffrey Toobin railed against Jeff Flake on Thursday morning, calling the Arizona senator a coward for his regular rebukes of President Donald Trump.
Flake gave a speech on the Senate floor Wednesday in which he implored his fellow lawmakers to treat Brett Kavanaugh and his accuser Christine Ford like human beings in their hearing, and criticized the way the process has been made “toxic” by partisanship.
Toobin wasn’t a fan. “Jeff Flake is an extraordinary political coward,” he said on CNN’s New Day. “He gave a nauseating speech yesterday, I thought. He goes on the Senate floor to inform the other 99 senators that the people involved here are human beings. Like no kidding, right?”
“His act of being an agonized like nice guy when he has voted in lock step with Donald Trump on absolutely everything is really just such a tired act, I think,” Toobin continued. “Suzanne Collins and Lisa Murkowski had the political courage to turn on Donald Trump when it came to the Affordable Care Act. You know, John McCain got all the publicity, but his vote wouldn’t have mattered [without] Collins and Murkowski. They have been profiles in political courage. Jeff flake is the opposite of that.” (Reminder: despite his differences with Trump, Flake is a Republican…)
“Someone has spiked Jeffrey Toobin’s coffee with truth serum this morning!” New Day host Alisyn Camerota said.
