Trump Addresses Otto Warmbier Remarks at CPAC: ‘I’m in Such a Horrible Position’
Towards the end of his CPAC address today, President Donald Trump brought up his summit with Kim Jong Un and Otto Warmbier.
The summit broke down––Trump today said “I had to walk”––but after it, the president said at his press conference that he believes that Kim Jong Un wasn’t responsible for Warmbier’s death.
Trump was roundly condemned, including by Warmbier’s parents, whom he had invited to the State of the Union last year.
Today the president addressed Warmbier and said he’s in a difficult position:
“We got our great people back. That includes our beautiful beautiful Otto. Otto Warmbier, whose parents I’ve gotten to know, who’s incredible. And I’m in such a horrible position, because in one way I have to negotiate, and the other way I love Mr. and Mrs. Warmbier. And I love Otto. And it’s a very, very delicate balance. He was a special young man and to see what happened was so bad.”
