Trump Asks Bret Baier, ‘You Know What the N-Word Is, Right?’
President Donald Trump produced an awkward moment of television when he asked Fox News host Bret Baier about “the N-word.”
Baier interviewed Trump in the United Arab Emirates for an interview that aired on Friday’s Special Report. The president also visited Saudi Arabia and Qatar on his first foreign trip of his second term. He spent the first part of his trip defending his decision to accept a $400 million Boeing 747-8 from the Qatari royal family.
“You had a couple of foreign policy successes even right before this trip,” Baier said, teeing up a question about the airstrikes that India and Pakistan have launched against each other. “You picked up the phone and called two nuclear powers, India and Pakistan, and got them to step back from the brink. That was a success as you got on the plane heading over here.”
“A bigger success than I’ll ever be given credit for,” Trump complained. “Those are major nuclear powers. Those are not like a little bit. And they were angry.”
The president then began talking about “the N-word”:
TRUMP: It was getting deeper and more, I mean, more missiles. Everyone was stronger, stronger to a point where the next one’s gonna be you know what, the N-word. You know what the N-word is, right?
BAIER: [looks down at ground] Nuclear.
TRUMP: [laughs] Yeah.
BAIER: Thank you. Thank you for the clarification.
TRUMP: I figured you would wanna clean that up. It’s the N-word. That’s a very nasty word, right? In a lot of ways. The N-word used in a nuclear sense. That’s the worst thing that can happen. And I think they were very close. The hatred was great. And I said, “We’re gonna talk about trade. We’re gonna do a lot of trade. Don’t forget Iran wants to make a deal with us, badly for a lot of reasons.
Trump went on to claim that Iran wants to engage in trade with the U.S., stating, “I’m ok with that.”
