Today in President Donald Trump‘s world of crazy, a ringing endorsement of a dude who assaulted a member of the press. Cue shock here.
At a rally in Billings, Montana Thursday night, Trump did his usual rounds of lauding the members of his party whom he’s given his blessing, and that included Rep. Greg Gianforte (R-MT).
“I’ll tell you what, this man has fought in more ways than one for your sake,” Trump said of Gianforte last night to the people of Montana. “He is a fighter and a winner.”
“Everybody has to get out and vote for Greg,” he added.
In the wake of the bodyslamming incident, Gianforte apologized for his conduct and ostensibly donated $50,000 to the Committee to Protect Journalists as part of a settlement agreement.
“My physical response to your legitimate question was unprofessional, unacceptable, and unlawful,” Gianforte said in a public letter of apology to Jacobs. “As both a candidate for office and a public official, I should be held to a high standard in my interactions with the press and the public. My treatment of you did not meet that standard.”
Meanwhile, Gianforte’s heartfelt apology is probably not what caught Trump’s attention to him being a “fighter” or a “winner.”
