President Donald Trump arrived in Corpus Christi, TX late Tuesday morning to tour the damage caused by Hurricane Harvey.
His first stop was a briefing with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Texas Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, and various Cabinet officials. Prior to the closed portion of the briefing, Trump briefly spoke to the media. He said he wanted his administration to set the bar for storm response.
“We want to do it better than ever before,” Trump said. “We want to be looked at in five years, in ten years from now as, this is the way to do it.”
Trump added this, as he praised Abbott and other Texas officials for their handling of the crisis over the past few days.
“We won’t say congratulations,” Trump said. “We don’t want to do that. We don’t want to congratulate. We’ll congratulate each other when it’s all finished.”
