Trump’s Economic Approval Rating Sinks to Lowest Figure Since 2017 in New CNN Poll

President Donald Trump is facing the worst economic approval rating of his second term.

A new CNN poll indicates that a majority of Americans disapprove of his handling of the economy — it’s the first time as president he’s been underwater on the issue since December 2017, during his first term.

The new survey, conducted by SSRS, found 56 percent of Americans disapprove of Trump’s economic stewardship.

The downturn comes amid market volatility and investor anxiety over Trump’s aggressive trade policies and tariff threats.

The poll, however, isn’t all bad news for Trump: 51 percent approve of his approach to immigration, but his handling of the federal budget, healthcare, and foreign affairs continue to draw widespread disapproval.

Trump’s overall approval rating stands at 45 percent, with 54 percent disapproving. But polarization, according to CNN, remains the story as Republicans overwhelmingly back him, while Democrats remain staunchly opposed.

The poll also showed public skepticism toward Trump’s push to cut federal spending and downsize government agencies. Elon Musk’s involvement in these efforts appears unpopular, with just 35 percent of Americans holding a positive view of the tech mogul while 53 percent disapprove. A striking 62 percent of respondents express concern that Trump’s cuts are going too far, jeopardizing essential government programs. Vice President JD Vance was rated favorably by 33 percent of participants and 44 percent viewed him unfavorably.

The CNN poll, conducted March 6-9, surveyed 1,206 U.S. adults via online and phone interviews.
