Fox Business Network host Stuart Varney and Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) battled Friday morning over a House-passed bill that would establish a temporary pause of the acceptance of refugees into the U.S.
Moulton, an Iraq war veteran, was not one of the 47 Democrats who joined Republicans in voting for the legislation, and defended his position to Varney, saying the screening procedures already in place are effective.
“Passing this bill is playing right into ISIS’s hands,” Moulton said. “You are making it easier for ISIS to recruit people here at home.”
Varney exploded at Moulton, saying the U.S. should not risk a terror attack by increasing its population on the homeland. Moulton pointed out that the Paris attackers did not “just send refugees into Paris,” but rather recruited them in Europe.
“You think that by letting more in, we de-radicalize?!” Varney responded. “That’s illogical!”
Varney asked Moulton if he would take responsibility if someone posing as a refugee kills an American citizen. Moulton didn’t answer the question, and instead contended that ISIS could use the House bill to “radicalize Muslims here at home to conduct attacks.”
Varney was skeptical of the idea that pausing the influx of refugees would cause radicalization in America.
