Warren Buffett Says He Would Support Mike Bloomberg in 2020: He’d ‘Be a Very Good President’
Billionaire Warren Buffett said he’d support New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg if he ran for president in 2020, in an interview with CNBC’s Becky Quick Monday in Omaha, NE.
“I think he would be a very good president,” said Buffett. “I mean, he and I disagree on some things, but I think that he knows how to run things, he has the right goals for America, he understands people, he understands the market system, and he understands the problems of the people that don’t fit well into the market system. I would have no trouble being for him.”
Buffett and Bloomberg both made the list as two of the top-ten richest men in the world in 2017; Buffett as the 11th-richest, and Buffett as second-richest. Buffett, who, not long ago was the richest man in the world, said he does not think it would be a good idea for former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz to run for president as an Independent candidate in 2020, because he would pose a disadvantage to Democrats.
“I think he would take votes away from any Democrat, including Bloomberg, if he were running,” he told Quick. “So I think it would be a real mistake for him to run and I think generally third-party candidates are gonna hurt one party or another, and they’re more likely to hurt the side that they actually favor because they are closer to that view.”
