President Donald Trump introduced Sen. Bob Corker at a rally on Tuesday night — and the lawmaker was met with loud boos from the crowd.
Trump was speaking in Nashville, Tennessee in support of Rep. Marsha Blackburn‘s Senate campaign. The president then introduced the state’s two sitting senators.
“We’re also very grateful to be joined by Senator Lamar Alexander,” Trump said, to some applause.
“And Senator Bob Corker,” he added, as loud boos erupted throughout the stadium.
The cameras zoomed in on an awkward looking Corker, who grimaced.
Corker, once a popular GOP lawmaker in Tennessee, saw his approval ratings amongst Republicans take a nosedive after he criticized Trump’s presidency. A spat between the two led to the senator calling the White House “an adult day care center” and the president branding the senator “Liddle Bob Corker.” The two eventually mended their relationship, which Corker now describes as “warm.”
Corker announced he will retire from the Senate at the end of this Congress.
