Terror Investigation Launched After Teacher Killed In France

France Attack

One teacher was killed and several others were left injured Friday in a stabbing rampage at Gambetta High School in Arras, France, that is now being investigated as a terrorist offence.

Footage posted online appears to show the attacker in the midst of his rampage as others attempt to fight him off with a chair.

French news outlet Le Figaro confirmed the teacher had died after sustaining multiple stabbings, and a security guard with another teacher also seriously injured.

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin stated the assault occurred around 11:00 local time and that a swift police response resulted in the killer’s arrest.

In response to the attack, all schools in Arras have been placed under lockdown, and police are on high alert.

The killer reportedly cried “Allahu Akbar” during the act. The perpetrator, a man in his 20s of Chechen descent, is familiar to security forces due to ties with radical Islam. BBC report that he is a former student.

The French anti-terror prosecutor has initiated an investigation for “murder in connection with a terrorist enterprise.”
