‘Did You Know?’ Outrage Over ITV Hamas Question to British-Palestinian MP Layla Moran

Good Morning Britain host Richard Madeley sparked backlash from viewers on Tuesday asking British-Palestinian MP Layla Moran if she or her family had any prior knowledge of Hamas’s attack on Israel.

The moment has since gone viral and led to a flurry of criticism.

During the interview Moran, a Liberal Democrat MP, detailed the harrowing experiences of her family currently stranded in a church in Gaza City due to the ongoing conflict.

Moran described the dire humanitarian situation: “My concern is not just the electricity. Is the food, the water, they’re drinking dirty water? You know, it’s only a matter of time. This humanitarian crisis is only going to get worse and worse and this siege that Gaza is under needs to stop.”

As she explained the conditions her trapped relatives found themselves in she emphasised their inability to move due to the dangerous conditions, Madeley, seemingly out of left field, posed a question that would leave Moran momentarily stunned.

“Your family connections in Gaza,” he asked. “Did you have any indication of what was going to happen ten days ago, two weeks ago. Was there any word on the street?”

The segment was immediately met with criticism. Many viewers found Madeley’s question inappropriate and inconsiderate, given the context of the humanitarian crisis Moran was describing.

Shortly after the discussion aired, social media was abuzz with criticisms of Madeley’s choice of words. One viewer described his line of questioning as “absolutely insane behaviour,” while another commented that it was “outright racism.”
