Climate activist Greta Thunberg and 25 others were charged by London’s Metropolitan police Wednesday following their arrest on Tuesday protesting an oil and gas conference protest
The demonstration took place outside the city’s Intercontinental Hotel, where the Energy Intelligence Forum was hosting oil and gas industry leaders.
Police charged Thunberg with a public order offence due to allegedly causing “serious disruption to the community, hotel and guests.”
Thunberg, who first became famous for initiating weekly climate protests outside the Swedish parliament in 2018, has recently faced detentions in Sweden, Norway, and Germany.
At Tuesday’s protest, video footage captured the 20-year-old, adorned with an ‘Oily Money Out’ badge, conversing with officers before subsequent images showed her entering a police van.
Thunberg has been released on bail and is set to appear in court on November 15th.
