‘I Love My Family’: Prince Harry Opens Up On Father’s Cancer Diagnosis
Prince Harry said he was “grateful” of the opportunity to visit his father, King Charles III, last week following the monarch’s cancer diagnosis.
The comments came during an exclusive interview with ABC’s Good Morning America, which aired on Friday.
“I love my family,” The Duke of Sussex said, sharing his feelings on the family’s current ordeal.
Although he did not disclose any further details as to his father’s illness or condition, Prince Harry said: “The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that.”
Host Will Reeve, the son of late actor Christopher Reeve, famously left paralysed when thrown from a horse, spoke of how illness like this could bring a family together.
“I’ve also found in my own life that sort of an illness in the family can have a galvanising or a sort of reunifying effect for a family. Is that possible in this case?” Reeve asked.
Prince Harry replied: “Absolutely. Yeah, I’m sure. Throughout all these families I see it on a day-to-day basis, again, the strength of the family unit coming together. I think any illness, any sickness brings families together.”
Prince Harry, who was personally informed about his father’s condition by King Charles himself on Feb. 6, made an immediate journey from the US to see the King. Despite the reportedly strained family relationship, the prince said his focus was on the family’s well-being.
The Duke of Sussex is currently in Canada to promote the winter Invictus Games, set for February 2025 in Vancouver and Whistler.
