Louis Theroux vs. Piers Morgan: A Celebrity Boxing Match in the Making?

Louis Theroux and Piers Morgan have been exchanging verbal jabs online after a clip for Theroux’s new documentary surfaced.

Two of the nation’s most recognizable journalists, documentarian Louis Theroux and broadcaster Piers Morgan, have found themselves exchanging mock pre-fight trash talk online after Theroux told professional boxer Anthony Joshua he could “take” Morgan in the ring.

Theroux’s comment was made in a teaser clip for an upcoming documentary for his series Louis Theroux Interviews, in which Joshua playfully suggests the interviewer could draw significant viewership if he participated in a boxing fight.

Seizing the idea, the pair mused over who Theroux might fight.

“Maybe someone like a Kugan Cassius,” Joshua said, referring to the actor turned boxer.

“Wait, the boxing journalist?” Theroux responded. “I thought you were going to say someone like Phillip Schofield.” This prompted a suggestion from one of Louis’ producers who threw in the name Piers Morgan, to which Louis responded with enthusiasm: “That’s a perfect match-up. Number one. He’s very famous…and I think I could take him.”

On seeing the clip, Morgan was quick to escalate the banter, prompting a theatrical war of words.

“Have you lost your marbles Louis Theroux? I’d destroy you in 30 seconds, you puny wastrel,” Morgan tweeted.

“I don’t think you’ve got the cardio fitness, Piers, TBF,” Theroux clapped back. “You’d gas out and after that I’d just be playing music on your chin like a boxing Beethoven.”

Since then Morgan has posted video footage of him in the ring with Manny Pacquiao, regarded as the greatest southpaw fighter of all time.

Jest they may, but the exchange has captured the imagination of their respective followers, who are now eagerly awaiting the next round of this social media sparring session as the pair parry in verbal jabs.
