Asian-American Groups File Suit Against Harvard for ‘Discriminatory Practices’

harvardDozens of Asian-American groups filed a joint lawsuit yesterday against Harvard University claiming that university has engaged in “racial balancing” that is discriminatory towards Asian applicants.

According to NBC News, these groups say Harvard’s quota system is unfair and they want to “ensure that Harvard and other ivy league schools will never again discriminate against Asian-Americans or applicants of any other races.”

A similar lawsuit was filed against Harvard last November by Project on Fair Representation, and all of these groups believe Harvard is being unfair by denying applications of Asian-American students who have demonstrated academic excellence.

In a response to the complaint, Harvard’s general counsel put out a statement pointing out that a prior investigation into those allegations concluded “the College’s approach to admissions was fully compliant with federal law.”

He touts Harvard’s “strong record” of recruiting Asian-American students and how the percentage of Asian-Americans accepted by Harvard has increased in the last ten years.
