Ben Carson Gives Himself Distant Deadline to Decide on Presidential Bid
Conservative hero and Fox News contributor Dr. Ben Carson has made clear he wants to run for president and on Monday he gave himself a very non-pressing deadline for his ultimate decision.
In an interview with radio host Hugh Hewitt, Carson said he has until May of 2015 (plenty of time to hock books and milk his Fox News contract).
Asked if he planned on being in the Republican presidential primary debates, Carson said there’s a “reasonably good chance” he’ll be participating.
“I’m waiting, you know, obviously, for a few more months,” Carson said. “I want to make sure that it’s clearly something my fellow Americans want me to do. And I’m also waiting to see what the results are in November, because if the people indicate that they truly do want a nation that is for, of and by the people, then I, along with I hope many other people, would be willing to give it everything we possibly have.”
Asked when he would decide whether to announce his candidacy, Carson said “certainly before May of next year.”
Comparatively, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has given herself until “probably after the first of the year” to declare her own candidacy.
