Bill Kristol Is Starting to Regret Calling Trump ‘Wiser’ Than Hillary
Before Donald Trump jumped the shark (or, more accurately, slipped and fell into the shark’s open mouth) today, Bill Kristol was ready to defend him as “wiser” than Hillary Clinton. Kristol told ABC News’ Benjamin Bell that Trump is not hurting the GOP. In fact, he “is probably helping by broadening the tent.”
He asked, “So what evidence is there — as opposed to knee-jerk conventional wisdom — that he’s hurting the GOP?”
In addition, when asked if Trump would make a better president than Clinton, Kristol said, “Yes. After all, he’s older, wiser, and richer!”
Kristen even felt so strongly about his position that he was getting ready to defend it on TV:
On @ThisWeekABC I'll defend my claim @realDonaldTrump is not only older & richer but wiser than @HillaryClinton. https://t.co/paEfXW5ya4

And then Trump started talking again:
Or I may retract it. "On @ThisWeekABC I'll defend claim @realDonaldTrump is not only older & richer but wiser than Hillary." @BenjaminBell

Yes, in case you somehow missed it, Trump dismissed McCain’s status as a war hero, saying, “He’s a war hero ’cause he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured.” Condemnation from his GOP presidential rivals and conservative pundits followed, and Kristol was among them. He even dinged Ted Cruz for ducking the issue:
Advice to @realDonaldTrump: Apologize for this pronto. Otherwise beginning of end.

True re press loving Rep-on-Rep violence–but Cruz's excuse for refusing to comment won't hunt. (1/2) https://t.co/TS7BNDnEFK

Legitimate to expect a GOP pres candidate to comment on statement by another candidate re a leading senator. (2/2) https://t.co/TS7BNDnEFK

It’s worth noting that while not necessarily in his corner, Kristol has been advising Republicans to learn from the “healthy” parts of Trump’s campaign and run with it.
