Pat McCrory, the governor of North Carolina, has declared a state of emergency over the protests and violence in Charlotte tonight:

I have declared a State of Emergency & initiated efforts to deploy the Nat'l Guard & Highway Patrol to assist local law enforcement in CLT

There has been rioting going on, buildings have been trashed by vandals, reporters have been targeted, and at least one person was shot.
