Chris Christie: Eagles Fans Are the ‘Worst in America’

Alright, Gov. Christie. You hit a nerve with this humble scribe.

According to New York Times reporter Michael Barbaro, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was overheard saying fans of Philadelphia sports teams are the “worst in America.”

Christie, an avowed Dallas Cowboys fan who may also be an ethics violator, must be relishing in the fact that his team didn’t go 8-8 again this year. He can, of course, be a normal fan like the rest of us and express joy that his team is playing well and just advanced to the next round of the playoffs. (And no, the hug with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was not “unpresidential.”)

CNN’s Jake Tapper, a fellow fan from the best sports city in America, didn’t mince words when he saw what the governor said:

One last thing the governor said, talking about attending a Cowboys vs. Giants game in his home state: “I didn’t get booed. Giant fans waved, said hello, asked for autographs, didn’t give me a hard time … But these guys?” he said of Eagles fans.

Perhaps it’s because you’re a Cowboys fan, governor?

Look, Gov. Christie. You have every right to be a Cowboys fan. But don’t insult half of your constituents and the majority of folks in an important sometimes-swing state that could be in play if you maybe run for president.

Maybe we’ll win a Super Bowl some day. And if Christie is the President of the United States when that day comes, I expect him to happily and enthusiastically welcome the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles to the White House.
