Donald Trump Just Had Some Thoughts On Twitter About Transgender Soldiers
President Donald Trump started off his morning in the usual way — making controversial pronouncements on Twitter.
Trump announced news, Wednesday, of a new policy regarding transgender individuals in the military, which stipulates they should not be allowed because of their “tremendous medical costs” and the “disruption” they cause.
Under President Obama, the U.S. government implemented a measure that not only allowed transgender service members, but required the Pentagon to pay for their gender transition surgeries and hormone therapy. On July 14, 2017 the House voted to reverse this measure, but they lost the vote 214-209. This led Rep. Steve King to go on a rant, comparing the procedure to the Ottoman Empire’s practice of castrating slaves.
