Ex-DOJ Spox: FBI Director’s Presser on Clinton Emails ‘Completely Inappropriate’
A former spokesman for the Department of Justice criticized FBI Director James Comey today for holding the press conference on the Hillary Clinton email investigation in the first place.
Comey announced today that he’s not recommending charges against Clinton, but did heavily criticize her and her team for extreme “carelessness.”
But Matthew Miller took to Twitter today to say the entire thing was completely inappropriate:
Whatever Comey's recommendation, this presser is so inappropriate. Complete departure from FBI/DOJ standards.

Absolutely outrageous presser by Comey. DOJ/FBI is supposed to speak in court. If it won't make statements in court, it shouldn't make them.

Once again, Clinton gets worse treatment than anyone else would. I can't remember an FBI press conference like that when charges declined.

@emptywheel I would disagree with that. But either way, it's a dangerous precedent for FBI to make these statements in declinations.

Comey's statement appears to violate DOJ rules for comments about ongoing matters. https://t.co/j32h3VLaU6 pic.twitter.com/4LvEi8Qzkg

Comey says "it is possible" Clinton's email was hacked. Since when does the FBI publicly speculate about things it doesn't know/can't prove?

@samsteinhp just completely inappropriate

And for you cable news junkies, Miller is scheduled to be a guest on MSNBC with Chris Hayes tonight…
