Greenpeace Ad Depicts Old, Sorry President Obama

obaba_greenpeace_adIn preparation for President Obama’s upcoming visit to the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference, environmental activist group Greenpeace and tcktcktck.org have rolled out an ad campaign that has some chilling elements. While the right constantly accuses the President of apologizing now, Greenpeace predicts Obama will be sorry in 2020 if he doesn’t save the world in Copenhagen. He’ll also be about 70 by then, apparently, and just entering his 4th term.  (Just kidding. Or am I?)

As scare tactics go, this is pretty lame. An ad like this might get President Obama to invest in some moisturizer, but not much else. With a slogan like “Act Now – Change the Future,” you would expect to see something more like this, wouldn’t you?

The Obama ad is part of a series featuring aged, apologetic world leaders. The audience for these ads is rather narrow. According to Greenpeace Executive Director Kumi Naidoo, ““There will be no avoiding our message. From the moment they set out, to the end of the talks we will make sure everyone involved in this summit knows what is needed. It is up to these heads of state, particularly President Obama to stop talking, and start taking action.”

The ads will be included in in-flight magazines as well as at the airport, which should add greatly to the campaign’s impact, provided these heads-of-state are stranded on the tarmac for 73 hours or more.
