Here’s A First: Obama Has Negative Approval Rating–In New York

A new Quinnipiac poll finds disturbing news for President Obama and his hopes of reelection in 2012: he’s got a negative approval rating in “the most heavily Democratic large state” in the nation: New York. 49 percent of New Yorkers disapprove of the job the president is doing–and only 45 percent approve. As National Journal notes this morning, it’s the first time Mr. Obama has had a negative result in the Empire State. “The debt-ceiling hullaballoo devastated President Barack Obama’s numbers even in true-blue New York,” said Quinnipiac poll director Maurice Carroll.

Obama’s had better days in New York, where his approval stood at 57 percent just last month, not far from his margin in the state in the 2008 election:

Voters split 48 percent to 46 percent over whether he deserves reelection. This in a state that Obama won with 63 percent of the vote three years ago. Still, he has managed to hold onto a lead over a generic Republican, with 49 percent saying they would vote for him to 34 percent for the GOP candidate.

If you’ve lost NY, Barry, you’re toast. On the bright side, you’ll be able to golf as much as you want.  Well, as much as Michelle let’s you.

  • Michelle

Was this poll taken before or after Barry’s latest fundraiser with NY fat cats?  Geez, how many fundraisers is that this week!  He’s gonna need that vaca in Martha’s Vineyard.

  • Anonymous

If he can’t make it there , he can’t make it anywhere . New York , New York .

    These vagabond shoes …

  • BatboysDad

Now everyone is getting it….he is the least prepared person to ever be President.

He is exactly why you will see less and less people being pumped out of the Ivy League schools in the future, destine for government.  He just does not have a clue as to do anything but be a Community Organizer, blame someone else, try to extort, steal, or get their money some way to pump down some gopher hole with no bottom.

    Pile on:
    Barry Barry quite contrary
    How does your garden grow
with goverment bills and liberal shills
and billionaires lined up in a row

“Don’t call my bluff, Eric…I’m going to take this to the American people.”

    LOL @ Obamo. Just ‘LOL.’

You kidding…..if you think Michelle wasn’t proud of this country before, wait until it throws her husband out of office in disgrace and disgust…..they’ll probably move back to Kenya?

This is why Romney poses such a serious threat to Obama.  If Romney gets the nomination, Obama will need to spend huge resources trying to defend his Democrat base in the Northeast — where Romney has huge appeal to independents and moderates.  Meanwhile Romney’s weakness in the Deep South may tempt Obama into trying to compete in those states, but with little real chance that he can make a serious dent.  Meanwhile in the traditional battleground states — Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Michigan, etc — Romney is very strong.

In short, from an electoral college standpoint, Romney is Obama’s worst nightmare.   Which is precisely why the liberal media was running 100 times more stories on Trump, Bachmann, etc.  Although now they have started to wake from their fantasy, and have realized that they need a plan against Mitt.  Which is why you saw those liberal plants try to disrupt Romney’s campaign event yesterday.  Which seems to have backfired on the liberals…..

  • SNAPTIE

Barry, how was your fundraiser last night with all the nasty Millionaires,Billionaires and Corporate jet owners? “That you supposedly hate”

  • Dflojak

You have a much better handle on this than i do according to what you wrote, and I hope you are spot on. I think when tingles and the rest of the spineless left start handwringing about the big O, the outlook, according to my magic eight ball, is not good. The biggest threat I see is if Hillary does decide to run against Barry for the dem nom.there’s alot of people that would come out to vote for her if she gets the nod. Hate to see all this buyers remorse over the Messiah, though. Unfortunately, we’re all paying for it.

You do realize that the parts of Long Island NOT in NYC and most of Upstate is Republican, right?

I would be interested in looking at the geographic data of this poll.

Its been a awful month for the President and no spin from his friends in the media can help that.

  • Anonymous

Apparently, even New Yorkers have to pull their head out of the sand for a breath of air sooner or later. It’s terribly unfortunate that it is so much later.

  • CarmanK

Obama has been challenged in so many ways, that no man in the position as been challenged before. He is under extraordinary pressure to perform well on many sides. The DEBT ceiling issue was a crisis started and controlled by the extreme right wing of the republican party. The down grade to our country’s credit rating was a self imposed wound. In no time in our recent history, has it been acceptable to MOCK AND DISRESPECT OUR PRESIDENT IN SO MANY WAYS especially in time of war. At no time in recent history has the minority party publicly announced that it’s primary goal is to make a president fail and be willing to sacrifice   mn300 people less 400 to the gods of wealth and power to make it happen. Obama showed courage in getting bin Laden, he has been trying to hard to show common sense and HOPE IN negotiating with the republicans to work with him. His advisors, unlike Cheney and Rumsfeld have not been around DC for years and were too naieve to believe that there were people in our country in positions of power who would put personal ambitions ahead of the good of the country. He will come back to reality, and he will come out strong in the days ahead.

Obama at least is for all people big corps knew when jobs go so goes small business and those 250k jobs wont be needed whilst they manipulate the stock market billionaires taking from millionaires 401k and pensions the insiders are buying back their stock at pennies on the dollar making millions off u just to sell to u again for more money while banks are taking half your 401k in hidden fees & betting with hedge funders against you while Governor pays 30$ a mo for his health care and congress is free how much do u pay if u are lucky enough to still have a job remember Obama is not a dictator & republicans want america to fail watch out gold will fall quick

  • http://twitter.com/hadenough2010 vicky worley

when a billionaire buys a 650K watch its just eye candy when Americans spend 650K on watches they create demand jobs and profit for your company and the better the pay the more they spend

  • Charles

just look on the bright side–yes, he has in part made his own bed since his main concern seems to be getting re-elected, but since AWOL GWB f***ed up the economy to start with, Pugs will finally have to prove they can do something besides run the Country in the ditch.

Now if only California will wake up and smell the coffee.  I think the people in NY are smarter than the California Hollywood types, but one can dream they will realize that Barry is bad for America.

  • Brad DC

You do realize that the huge amount of liberals living in New York City far outweighs upstate Republicans right? Or our you just sticking your head in the sand and acting like this President isn’t falling big time in every poll.

  • richs

What you say could be true.  I am tired of voting against people.  If I voted for Governor Romney I would be voting against President Obama.  I still haven’t seen anyone running that I can vote for.  Governor Perry might fill the bill but I’m still not sure and have to learn more about him.

Obama is such a polarizing figure and a majority of Americans are so down on him that it would be best for the country if he just sulks off and goes away. Who in their right mind REALLY wants four more years of his failures and divisiveness?

Let’s be totally honest here. Obama is in far worse shape at this time in his Presidency than Bush was and how did Bush’s last term go for the country? It was a f*cking disaster!

If you want to know how a second Jimmy Carter term in office would have gone, then vote for Obama. That’s all I got to say.

You see he wants to raise taxes on everybody that makes over $250k. Problem is that in NY, especially in NYC,  250k is just a little over their minimum wage. Ok, just joking it’s that close to the minimum wage but it’s fairly close to their living wages. If you live in Texas you are on the edge of being rich, in NC you might be considered upper middle class. But in NY and a lot of other places $250k is probably consider middle class at best. Just saying.

the main reason Obama has lost approval is simply he hasn’t been progressive enough. When it comes between Obama and any of the ReTeaLoaders even Romney NY and most blue and purple states will stick with Obama, sorry bout that Klansmen

Wow if you think Bush was castigated and attacked like Obama was you are nuts

You ever see how minimal the marginal tax payments that were under Clinton  up to 500K barely three grand, if you cared about the deficit you’d know it certainly wouldn’t matter, but of course the deficit isn’t the issue hatred of Obama is.

Fireside: CIA Lies About Civilian Drone Deaths
Obama’s counterterrorism advisor, John Brennan recently made the claim
that because of the exceptional proficiency, the precision of the
capabilities that we’ve been able to develop, referring to use of
unmanned drones, that there hasn’t been a single collateral death for
almost a year. But as the New York Times documented today, it doesn’t
seem to add up. And in response John Brennan then said that U.S.
officials could not confirm any deaths.

Don’t count on it New York will spring right back unless a sane Republican can be found and it ain’t Mittens, certainly not Preacher Perry

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bob-Uda/1044488632 Bob Uda

No, actually the Kenyan newspapers and government have been rewriting history.  All of their claims that Obama was born in Kenya have been purged and changed in all of their documents, newspapers, and websites.  You can find the truth of all of these changes in Dr. Jerome Corsi’s book, “Where’s the Birth Certificate?”  They wanted to guard against all of the claims about Obama not being born in Hawaii and not a U.S. citizen.  It is really sickening to see the great conspiracy in action.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bob-Uda/1044488632 Bob Uda

Sorry, New York just went Red with more people saying in the latest poll that they would not vote for Obama in 2012.

I’m not totally sure how to take our statement…The only purpose in taxing the rich is because it seems fair. But it also not fair to take money from people who earn it and then give it to people who do not. And as stated in my above comments a $250k income is not Rich! Especially in some places in this country. Even if you did raise taxes on the Rich is would make little difference in revenue. For the most part the Rich people are the producers and the jobs creators. We wonder why so many corporation leave for other countries. Most think they leave for low wage 3rd world countries or to China where it’s basically slave labor. Some do,  but for the most part that isn’t the case. Out of the top 16 developed countries the U.S. has the 2nd highest corporate tax rate among them, Japan being the highest. They are about to change theirs so we will be the highest soon. Good high paying  technical and manufacturing jobs are going to Europe because of those rates. Unless it is a so call “Green company” this administration seems to want to demonize corporation that make “too much profit”. These guys are our job producers with good pay and benefits and they are looked upon and treated like the enemy.

Now, if the fiscal conservatives among them the Tea Party ever agreed to raise taxes or cut deductions on the rich in an attempt to raise revenue it would have to happen after deep true cuts in our year to year budget to a point of almost being balanced. Because every time a Republican President made any deal with congress to raise taxes in exchange for future cuts the cuts never came. So no more deals on raising taxes until the cuts are realized.

I have not heard too many people here say they hate Obama himself. Some may. But most just hate his ideology, not the person. When people were talking trash about Jimmy Carter they could not say we hated  him and or say we were racist. But as soon as conservative started taking issues with Obama’s policies and would not comprise with him because that comprise take us closer to total socialism we are labeled as bigots who hate Obama because he is black. That’s is simply not true and is the first weapon of last resort the liberal can’t help but using.

This message was paid for by the committee to elect Herman Cain to be the next President of the United States.

Courtesy of Steve Benen here’s a nifty timeline of events concerning the fiscal state of the Union since Saint Ronnie of the Reagan was prez.
And for those of you who like to invoke “a pox on both their houses” and claim that both parties are to blame for our current sorry state of affairs I say, %$#! YOU.
1980: Ronald Reagan runs for president, promising a balanced budget
1981 – 1989: With support from congressional Republicans, Reagan runs enormous deficits, adds $2 trillion to the debt.
1993: Bill Clinton passes economic plan that lowers deficit, gets zero votes from congressional Republicans.
1998: U.S. deficit disappears for the first time in three decades. Debt clock is unplugged.
2000: George W. Bush runs for president, promising to maintain a balanced budget.
2001: CBO shows the United States is on track to pay off the entirety of its national debt within a decade.
2001 – 2009: With support from congressional Republicans, Bush runs enormous deficits, adds nearly $5 trillion to the debt.
2002: Dick Cheney declares, “Deficits don’t matter.” Congressional Republicans agree, approving tax cuts, two wars, and Medicare expansion without even trying to pay for them.
2009: Barack Obama inherits $1.3 trillion deficit from Bush; Republicans immediately condemn Obama’s fiscal irresponsibility.
2009: Congressional Democrats unveil several domestic policy initiatives — including health care reform, cap and trade, DREAM Act — which would lower the deficit. GOP opposes all of them, while continuing to push for deficit reduction.
September 2010: In Obama’s first fiscal year, the deficit shrinks by $122 billion. Republicans again condemn Obama’s fiscal irresponsibility.
October 2010: S&P endorses the nation’s AAA rating with a stable outlook, saying the United States looks to be in solid fiscal shape for the foreseeable future.
November 2010: Republicans win a U.S. House majority, citing the need for fiscal responsibility.
December 2010: Congressional Republicans demand extension of Bush tax cuts, relying entirely on deficit financing. GOP continues to accuse Obama of fiscal irresponsibility.
March 2011: Congressional Republicans declare intention to hold full faith and credit of the United States hostage — a move without precedent in American history — until massive debt-reduction plan is approved.
July 2011: Obama offers Republicans a $4 trillion debt-reduction deal. GOP refuses, pushes debt-ceiling standoff until the last possible day, rattling international markets.
August 2011: S&P downgrades U.S. debt, citing GOP refusal to consider new revenues. Republicans rejoice and blame Obama for fiscal irresponsibility.
    As Steve said,
“There have been several instances since the mid 1990s in which I genuinely believed Republican politics couldn’t possibly get more blisteringly ridiculous. I was wrong; they just keep getting worse.”
And I’d just add that what we’ve all just witnessed with the debt ceiling hostage crisis and concomitant downgrading of the nation’s creditworthiness is probably the single most irresponsible and dangerous domestic policy scandal perpetrated by a major American political party since the Civil War.

I don’t “think” – I know and you would too if you checked into it.  You don’t want to admit it – that’s a completely different kettle of fish.

Bush was called every vile name and ridiculed by the media and others.   How soon you all forget and now demand “respect” for the office.  Funny you never demanded respect when it was Bush -

Seems as if you put a lot of work into this?

A classic argumentation technique is to “overwhelm your opponent with information or dubious facts,” coupled with quick supporting commentary.  This is what you have done.  Even if you simply provided the time line, sans commentary or quips, the subject matter requires more than a brief overview.

Not to mention the credibility or bias of those serving up the facts? (YOU)  I could dig into this and end up agreeing with you, but, I’d rather read up on the subject by qualified authors than take your word for this complicated scenario you proffer.
