J.D. Hayworth Believes Controversial Arizona Birther Bill “Too Narrow”

A recent bill in the Arizona state legislature is requiring future presidential candidates to show his or her birth certificate in order to be on the state’s ballot. The controversial bill was brought up to Arizona Senatorial candidate, and former conservative radio talk show host, J.D. Hayworth, who is challenging John McCain in what’s becoming a contentious primary. Hayworth’s take on the bill? It doesn’t go far enough.

It’s been a hot-button issue that many see as a symptom of a much greater divide between what some are calling the “Birther Movement” (those who believe President Obama is not a legal president because he wasn’t born in the U.S.) and others who feel like that’s a bunch of hooey. Hayworth lays the reasonable claim that we should ask no less of our candidates than we do of our voters (who must also prove that they are citizens before voting.) That said, it doesn’t take much to see that requiring a birth certificate for Presidential candidate plays right into the hands of those who believe Obama is an illegitimate president, a largely conservative voting bloc that is Hayworth’s base.

Of course candidates should show their birth certificate and they should also take a drug test.

I would point out that in Texas, we do not show birth certificates to register to vote. We merely sign a statement we are citizens. Hayseed may not be all that up on the process.

I would also point out that, without being required to do so, President Obama posted his birth certificate on line well before the election. And, let’s not even go into that Short Form lie since the Short Form, generally the only one made available for public “consumption,” is perfectly adequate for the State Department in the issuance of Passports.

Having said that, I don’t know what the fuss is all about. I am sure Arizona is not going to require Whites without New England or Long Island accents to actually produce birth certificates.

If I were a Democrat, I’d refuse to provide the birth certificate, get excluded from the ballot and let the good people of Arizona, in others words those not supporting Hayseed, to storm the capitol.

Well, thanks for the post. Great to start the day with a good dose of ignorance.

“We merely sign a statement we are citizens.”

Here it is easy to register to vote but you must show ID to vote. Without this system the obsessed liberals would be registered so often the registered voters would exceed the County’s population.

I only have to show my Voter Registration Card (issued by the County Tax Assessor-Collector in fond remembrance of the days when we had poll tax and literacy tests in Texas). It is non-photo.

Yeah, that sounds fair. You know… EVERYONE can be trusted. It really sounds like you’re encouraging voter fraud. I wonder why…?

Hayseed may not be all that up on the process.

Ah good… name calling! And here, I thought you were supposed to be “better than that.” HA!

He looks like the chairman of the College Republicans and some community college in Alabama.

The weapons situation is getting very troubling, again. Seems that any unstable kook or drunken lout in our nation can be heavily armed.

HA! You are a hypocrite and a liar. Apparently, “trusting” everyone (read” encouraging voter fraud when you think it will help your party”), somehow fits with bigotry, stereotypes, and racial profiling. Looks like when it comes down to it, King will give you a pass or a “trust seal of approval,” depending on your skin color, and whether or not he determines your political ideology to be right or left.

    What a fraud.
