Paybackistan! Jon Stewart On Osama Bin Laden’s Death: America’s Back Baby!

video

For a certain generation of ironically detached news junkies, big stories are best enjoyed through the filter of the sardonic wit of Jon Stewart. Take for example the news of Navy SEAL commandos killing al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden; shortly after that broke, the Internet became alive with fans openly wondering what the Daily Show host would say. Well good news! Mr. Stewart’s take was both funny and strangely moving.

Longtime viewers of The Daily Show are used to Stewart’s familiarity with the events of 9/11, particularly since he lives only a few blocks from Ground Zero. After delivering a number of funny if not disjointed jokes, and in a moment of self-awareness, the fake newsman admitted that he was far too close to the situation, before and ending on an un-ironic and earnest note of American pride and patriotism. USA! USA!

Just because some were critical against celebrating the death doesn’t mean they all were, in fact from what I’ve seen most seem to be over the moon about Osama getting sent to Davy Jones’ locker. If you can find one person on here who made a flip between the issue then your criticism is tangible, otherwise you’re just being a silly goose.

For once Jon doesn’t get it outrageously and partisanly wrong. It’s a good day for humanity. Would have been better had we had a trial.

F^ck ya Jon. USA!!! USA!!! USA!!! This is the best ever!!! I think this is one of Jon’s best moments!!!

” Real ” Americans like Hannity, Beck and especially Geraldo presented ( from the heart ) their personal feelings regarding the ending of Osama bin Ladens infamous existence on this earth.

An un – American schmuck like Stewart just does his tired ( the whole thing flat out fell on it’s mutha____ in face SUCKED ), union writer supplied bullshit.

If Stewart actually lives a few blocks from ground zero and that was his sincere response to the United States of America gaining a the tiniest of closure regarding what happen to America, all of us, on 911, he is a MUCH BIGGER douchebag than I have been giving him credit for all these years.

Eh.. I’ve watched the Daily Show for years and Stewart doesn’t get things “partisanly wrong”. He makes fun of idiots. Thats kind of the point of the show.

We would have had a trial. It was a kill or capture operation. Apparently someone chose not to be captured and fired back. Oh well?

Geraldo said “We think…what do we think? What do we think?”

Seriously, man – these guys are idiots. I mean, they are astoundingly stupid. And you worship them. Which is not only exponentially more stupid that their astounding stupidity, it’s also sinful idolatry.

Anyway – Jon Stewart, who is brilliant, funny, and ballsy, is great. Everyone on Fox is an insipid asshat. And Obama consistenly proves himself a better man and a better President than Bush in every measure.

I do not watch other than an occasional episode Beck, Hannity and have never listened to Limbaugh’s show. I started coming here a few months ago because my main business is at the Jersey Shore during the Summer.

When people, any people, talk about Obama, Stewart et al in worship terms like some do here, my country is in big trouble and I speak up about it.

For us ” real ” American families ( conservatives ) it is all about God & country, the same as for the military men and women of the United States of America.

For liberal democrats it’s all about the democrat party and their co conspirators lying to and manipulating the less fortunate among us simply to garner their vote.

I’m actually impressed that many on the left are supporting the killing of bin Laden. For 8 years, the left fretted over how terrorists were being ‘mistreated’ and were greeting our soldiers at airports to spit in their faces. What a difference a couple of years makes. LOL.

I don’t know, after reading all the hard left poster’s comments yesterday, I don’t think UBL being dead is really of any importance to them at all. It appeared to be all about how well it works for THEIR guy and an “in your face” to conservatives. That is the ONLY reason I can come up with that not a single one of them could say ONE positive word about the slew of conservatives giving Obama the proper amount of credit for his role in this. And their flat out denial that GWB was due any crumb of credit for any of it.

    More bad news for Progressives!

Our Lefty neighbors to the North just held a vote of confidence for the Conservative Party, with the Liberal Party losing a big chunk of its votes to a third party.

I watched the debate, and they were verbatim the same issues here! – and the (3) other candidates clearly got the better of the Conservative in that debate!

  • goldmind

He’s right on point about how government yo yos manipulate media yo yos who juggle civilian yo yos, which convert the masses into television zombies, showing yet again how deliberate and concocted their control over YOU is. When I see the words “Special Report”, I turn the television off, go to my computer and google special report. In less then five minutes I knew bin laden was terminated. The White House knew it well before the “special report” intrusion, but just had to exercise their control over your dull and uninspiring lives.

In addition, this report deserved no more fanfare then any other special report involving the articulation of our special forces. One more rat, in a sea of rats, was killed…period. I assure you, once you get how these grease balls connive to regulate you lifestyle and pocketbook, and shut them down, you’ll experience a freedom like none other. It’s the worst bad habit you’ll ever drop. Those commercial blues will disappear, no more bad dreams about fornicating with a toothless Katy Couric, Chris Matthews doing the Macarena on your front lawn, Glen Beck peeping at you from a fallout shelter built with gold bullion, Geraldo Rivera, tossing tacos at the Taliban, Obama, using the mint presses to print everyone an autographed copy of his birth certificate. Need I go on? Government and Media, are a toxic mix, if watched in excess. But I know addictions well, and to think most of you will attempt to get this monkey off your back is preposterous at best. You’ll continue to hang on their every calculated word, while your children struggle for some of that quality attention you reserve only for these rogue cockroaches who think themselves leaders in their given fields. Which means you’ll get what they want you to get…perhaps a new car on Oprah, a new mindset on Dr Phil, a cheaper drug choice from the land of Oz, a colorful embellishment from your elected officials, a third rate film from the freak machines in Hollywood, and less control over your own life. I’m writing a book…Politics and Media for Dummies.

Clarity and consistency were never Obama’s strengths.

In November 2009 the Obama Administration charged 4 Navy SEALS with assault for slapping terrorist mastermind Ahmed Hashim Abed and giving him a fat lip.
One of the Navy SEALS was cleared of charges in April 2010.
The SEALS were accused of mistreating a wanted Iraqi terrorist who was behind the murder of 4 US contractors in Fallujah in 2004.

It was 2004: Fallujah, Iraq. Four civilian U.S. contractors were transporting supplies for a catering company. They were ambushed, killed, their bodies burned and dragged through the streets, then hung from a bridge on the Euphrates River. A NAVY SEAL TEAM captured one of the military’s “most wanted” terrorists, the one responsible for the heinous crime. Now 4 of our bravest and finest are facing prosecution because the scumbag terrorist claimed he got a bloody lip while in their custody.

Last night Barack Obama praised the Navy SEALS for shooting Osama Bin Laden in the head and killing his son.

  • TillieGlockenspiel

I wish Jon Stewart were right, but I’m afraid that, with the same lack of competence in the White House, we aren’t anywhere close to being “back.”

  • TillieGlockenspiel

Obama, Holder and the Democrat Left need to make a boatload of apologies to Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Alberto Gonzales, John Yoo and the CIA they threatened to prosecute.

Additionally, Lt. Col. Allen West deserves an apology and the charges against the four Navy SEALS need to be dropped and an apology issued.

That is the most un-American comment you can possibly make. The moment you say “real” Americans, it means that you may not truly understand what this country stands for. See, we are all Americans, we don’t have one groupthink, but a myriad of opinions, views, beliefs, creeds, etc. And that’s what makes our country so f-ing awesome. Pure and simple, Beck is no more un-American than Stewart, just as Stewart is no more a “real” American than Beck. Conservatives are real Americans, and so are Liberals, so are Muslim Americans, African Americans, etc. I mean technically this country was founded by going against the conservative view at the time. (The conservatives during the time were pro-England, but they evolved into a different viewpoint today, which is another awesome thing about this country, we are still evolving). Comments like “real” or un-American are a slap to the face to what makes us great. This is what I want to teach my son. And this goes to right and left, whatever party lines you vote along, the most un-American thing you can do is call an American un-American.

Welcome back Arthur, and congratulations on the addition to your family!

Artie…your comments are dignified and ring true. I continue to hope for the sake of your little one and countless others in my brood and across this fantastic land, splintered factions in this country come to realize the importance of safeguarding them and our principles. It’s a hope that wanes each day I visit these forums, but a hope I will take with me to my last breath. That aside, I will never refrain, from voicing my contempt for government and media. They are the mechanisms, keeping division alive and on point. Snakes of Wrath, if you will. In their demented circles, they genuinely believe we cannot handle truth. However, while many can not…I believe the majority of us can and will pull it all together in any calamity.

I think the important thing to remember is that alas, the internet is not reality. There are so many factors that go into our decisions when we interact with society. After all, if 90% of the people in these forums act in the real world, they would probably be jobless and friendless. It’s a realm where we can take on different identities and enjoy anonymity. (I’m not saying that people are hiding behind code names and avatars, I’m completely okay with it in this realm, so not saying anyone here is cowards or hiding). I think what happens is that we can heighten even the least extreme of ideas into a level of extremity that cannot and will not exist outside the internet. And yes, as we saw with 9/11, we as a country can pull together, and yes, that’s another great thing I love about this country.

I wonder what the world or at least the US would be like if we didn’t call each other political names. Instead we rejoiced that a despot , namely Osama Bin Ladin is finally gone. Jon Stewart imho shared the sentiments of the vast majority of Americans despite whatever their poitics are. Rightwing, Leftwing, liberal, conservative, moderate, middle of the road, no politics, whatever. The force behind the worst terrorism experienced in the US is finally eliminated. Bin Ladin got what he deserved. Too bad we suffered through so many years completely unnecessarily in Iraq under Bush. With countless soldiers dying for no justified reason. Plus tens of thousands of Iraqis who lost their lives, the Terrorist beheadings, Abu Ghraib. There was never any proven connection between Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Ladin. @ Barack Must Go. You make me embarrassed to be a human being. How small minded and blind of a person are you to make the comments you make. You are seriously a sick person and the reason I hate conservatives and Republicans. You literally make me want to puke. God and Country is all you care about? Then go back to the year 1850 please. There are some people here that are trying to evolve and move forward spiritually, mentally, and technologically. You can go a worship your santa claus in the sky and scream America is best all you want. Just don’t get in my way because i have no patience for morons like you. And whats with tough guy conservative republicans like you and religion? Whats the matter sweetie, you scared to die? Scared that when you die you just die like any other living thing and there is no coming back? Whats the matter little boy, scared that one day the lights are going to go out and you never wake up again? So that is why you go on about religion and heaven and your adult version of santa claus? Pathetic. Just accept it. There is no god. When you die, you die. Deal with it. So sick of religion holding everyone back from moving on as human beings. You are no better than muslim fanatics, just as stupid and closed minded. Piss off.

It’s because Stewart has credibility as a nonracist that he can get away with such a remark — and make it funny. Comedy is intensely dependent upon context, and Stewart has spent years creating his own personal microclimate within which such things are permitted.

You’re probably fooling yourself that your daughters don’t know who you vote for or your opinion of Obama. I’d bet money that you spew the same hateful bilge in front of your family as you do here. Your “with us or agin’ us” mantra is undoubtedly no secret to them, and neither is your fantasy that once Obama is banished, America will suddenly revert to an episode of “Father Knows Best,” with you holding forth from the head of the dinner table.

I think that both you and I know precisely what your daughters think of you. They probably “love” you anyway — humans are like that — but you have to be a huge embarassment to them. Sad, really.

So, you’re idea of the “real” America is totaltarianism? You disagree with the government, you get deported? Isn’t that also a fascist society and the exact opposite of what this country stands for? (I recommend reading that first amendment). America isn’t my way or the highway. I love this country, that doesn’t mean I can’t disagree with my leaders or my government. Government only makes up a tiny portion of the make up of our country. Your dream of a “real” America is a horrific dystopia? Perhaps you should read up on your “1984.” I don’t agree with you at all, but have shown a devotion to the United States, should I be deported as well? Right now, you disagree with Obama who is currently the government, so technically you should be deported right now with your way of thinking. Being born here means that yes, you do get the rights to speak out against what you disagree with. (Again, I recommend the first amendment to you.)

Now as far as your views on Islam infiltrating the U.S., you do realize the thing you hate is radical Islam (which I hate as well, very much so) I’m against any radical religious element, because it undermines religion as well as basic humanity. But that form of Islam makes up about 10% of the religion. By your theory, then all Christians are Mormons as well, since Mormonism makes up about 10% of the religion. You just seem more of the radical element because they are boisterous as well and well, makes for better television. A majority of the Muslim world hates Al Qaeda and that awful 10% that is radical Islam. We agree that radical religion should not take place in this country, as any religious element should not be in place within a secular nation. And we are a secular nation, certainly we have Christian ideals of morality and justice within our Constitution, but we also have elements from Eastern religions as well. The Founding Fathers themselves were not really Christian, at least not the God and Country first type people. A majority of them were Deists, which placed the idea of God as creator, but that was it. We shaped the lands and the beliefs and the moral structure. It places humanity first, since for the most part, humanity is God. Now, that is a belief that may fall outside your own, so should we have deported the founding fathers.

Look, you may not realize this, but your views are radicalized, and exist in extremism. Sure, you can hate the President and believe he needs to be ousted. That’s fine, but to say I need to be ousted because I disagree, well, that’s not fine.

Oh, and once Obama is out of office, things are not going to be that much different. Fortunately there are laws and constitutions in place that keep your vision of an Orwellian America from ever happening. Once they repeal that pesky first amendment, then trust me, I’m going to be leaving this country, because they will get rid of the thing I love most about us. And it will be much harder to teach my son about tolerance and respect in a country that has neither.

i get it… kinda like blacks getting a pass for dropping n-bombs… which gives you and others carte blanche to play the race card as you see fit… funny how people who somehow are credible as nonracists are incapable of having honest discussions about race, because those who do get glossed as racists rather than addressing their points on affirmative action, illegal immigration, etc… it’s a lot less stressful to have to consider their positions beyond calling them racists…

Afraid you ran into the ditch after your second ellipsis.

Yes, among some black people, calling each other “nigger” is acceptable in some very casual circumstances (none of the black people I know would do it, but I’ve certainly seen it in the movies and on TV — so it must be true).

However, your “playing the race card” is a total non sequitur. Which you follow with the disjointed notion that nonracists are “incapable of having honest discussions about race . . .” Huh? Where does that thought come from? What does it even mean?

I get that you resent something intensely, but I couldn’t actually tell what it was.

“nonracist’ may be a generous term… and calling someone out for doing something that someone else does, who ostensibly has credibility as a nonracist, is playing the race card… but here’s some examples of typical attempts to shut down honest debate:

opinion of alleged racist homophobe: “we need to defend out borders and also crack down on illegal immigration”.
intellectually lazy and/or dishonest response by alleged nonracist: “you’re a racist, you hate mexicans”.

opinion of alleged racist homophobe: “affirmative action is unfair to otherwise qualified, if not more qualified, white males”.
intellectually lazy and/or dishonest response by alleged nonracist: “you’re a racist and/or sexist, you hate african-americans and/or women”.

i normally would have written “blacks” instead of “african-americans”, but some overly sensitive types consider that racist… it’s surprising that the left doesn’t demand that women be called “gyno-americans”…
