What she has been doing is no different than what others have been saying, we as a whole have become obese and a bit over indulgent in our food intake. I recall in the 60’s the President’s Fitness program telling us to get outside and exercise. No one disagreed about the benefit then. We have become a society of phone apps and computer junky couch potatoes. Now it’s some sort of liberal plot to control your life and tell you what to do! Come on your better than that.

The wife of the president has done nothing but tried to bring focus on issues that benefit America’s youth. She is a respectful, intelligent woman who has never transgressed her public position by being insulting or insensitive to others.
But let’s give ole Rush a complimentary excuse. He may not have really intended to sound like a ignorant self- absorbed trashy bigot, maybe he is suffering from withdrawals and could not contain himself. Perhaps he resented the fact that those ribs were on Mrs. Obama’s plate, instead of his own and he was just too obese to wobble to a restaurant and fetch his own or slipped on a pool of his own drool which attempting to do so.

Listen up, Limbaugh may not like the president. Rush may be jealous of someone with such a beautiful family. He has the right to object to his Obama’s great education, his qualifying intelligence and respected achievements, most of all the ability to overcome the outrageous hurdles surrounding the economic disaster the previous administration created for this country, but to pick on his family members is pretty low, even for a foul mouth, pot-belly, sweaty low-life like Rush. Shame on you big-boy. Call Bob and see if you can get your old job back. Remember all the discounts you got on that restaurant menu.

No sir, I do not!

Just as all the women who want the right to murder the children in their wombs, I want the right to eat the foods I want to eat and I take great exception to anyone suggesting they have the right to dictate to me. This has been Ms. 0bama’s “cause” since I first heard of her. It’s an elitist attitude and it’s hypocritical. I’m not sure which trait I despise most, but it’s probably the hypocrisy. I want to live my life in a way that I see fit for so long as I bring no harm to others and I want you to have those same freedoms–I truly do.

While I am concerned that so many children I see are obese, I do NOT see that as a problem within the purview of government. I see the problem as being a failure of the parents. There are contributing factors; let me provide one illustration:

Kids come home and sit on their asses in front of a TV or video game instead of going outside to play. Sometimes, kids are kept indoors because it is unsafe for them to go outside; this is a failure of government because our courts do not adequately prosecute and PUNISH those who commit crimes against children or commit crimes that harm children (e.g. driveby shootings.)

Instead of becoming active in government and demanding that our court system restore safety to our streets and playgrounds by keeping the drug dealers and gangs OUT, obese parents come home and sit down in front of the TV and munch junk food right along with their obese kids. They do this instead of taking their kids to places where it is safe for them to play.

What Ms. 0bama’s consideres the solution to be is to place more regulations on companies that provide food that children (and their parents) eat. It’s not the vendors fault that parents feed their kids 18 donuts instead of only one, but Ms. 0bama is blaming them anyway. I haven’t heard one peep out of her suggesting that parents should enforce restraint. And that, sir, is my beef with Ms. 0bama and here elitist and hypocritical attitude that it’s OK for her to do what she wants but it’s NOT OK for the rest of us.

I’ll end this rant by telling you that I used to be overweight (not quite obese.) I think I must have a predisposition for being overweight but I fight it, and I know if I can keep my weight off, anyone can.

Addendum: My pique with all of this is what I see as the “liberal government attitude.” Maybe I’m wrong, but it seems to me that every liberal in government thinks all the problems in the world can be solved if only they can impose enough regulations on everyone and everything.

X-3-I really don’t see her dictating as much as suggesting caution. She sure isn’t seeking to reduce your freedom of choice. I see her looking to make better choices available. I agree with you with regards to parental responsibility toward their children and their community as well as the couch potato syndrome that our society has adopted. I do believe that there are a lot of people that need to be aware of the danger of processed foods (chemical additives and preservatives). In my aging years I have come to awareness of the need to balance my intake of fresh vegetables (which I have shunned most of my life) and fresh fruit and balance it with my carnivorous nature. In as far as gov’t intrusion I also agree, yet no one complained about the Presidential Fitness program going on in the 60’s, with exception of those who wanted to be couch potatoes. It is also sad to see an inability to differentiate between one’s political views and good intentions even if they are presented poorly either way. I don’t see that she should suffer people’s wrath so deeply.

Rocky, I can see you’re a reasonable person and interested in engaging in a civil dialogue. Before I say anything else, I want you to know the above. I will also admit that I might be hypersensitive in my response to what Ms. 0bama is trying to do; heaven knows our kids don’t have enough of anything resembling positive role models. Even the rapsters are either kooky, lardasses, or both. In days past, we almost never saw fat people on TV. If they did appear, they were the butts of jokes. Now, obesity seems to be “acceptable,” and you and I know that it is not–we “all” don’t have that mysterious glandular problem that is the favorite excuse for most.

While you may be correct that preservatives pose a risk, it might be worth considering what life would be like without them; more toxic intake from spoiled foods, shorter shelf life that drives up prices, and probably a few other things neither of us know about. Still, I heartily agree with you that fresh veggies and fruits are superior in taste to processed stuff, and I tend to eat raw veggies and fruits when they’re available. However, do you not recall how people have been poisoned (salmonella?) by fresh veggies? The point is, just because it’s fresh does not mean it’s good for us.

Back to Ms. 0bama: While she has been touting the virtues of eating wholesome foods and seeking to add additional regulations that will ultimately drive food prices upwards, how must you think people who view her as a role model when they see her doing the things she’s telling everyone else they shouldn’t do.

Perhaps you have helped me solve my dilemma over this matter in trying to decide whether my negative response was driven by her elitism or her hypocrisy. I think it was the latter.

It is indeed a pleasure engaging in civilized discourse. As far as your statement above might I recommend you look into community gardens. There is a better opportunity to get quality organic produce (no pesticides, etc) without the dangers big mass production farms provide. I got into it last summer and plan on getting more into it from now on. Regarding Michelle’s hypocrisy I don’t think she implied that we can’t occasionally indulge. That would be boring and difficult not to have a junk food pig out now and then. I think it’s more about keeping a balance. With regard to elitism I think all the overpaid wankers on Capitol Hill are and inevitably become that way even if they weren’t when they got into that environment. I grow a lot of my own veggies so thanks for the tip. Here’s one you might like: In my veggie garden, I also plant lots of marigolds among the vegetables; they deter cut worms, aphids, and a few more undesireable insects. If you grow corn, instead of using sevin dust to keep the worms out, try applying an eyedropper half full of vegetable oil to the silks. Oh, one more tidbit; zinnias and geraniums deter many undesireable insects from the garden and geramiums growing close to your door will keep mosquitoes from entering.

I currently depend on community gardens and my own tomato patch. As far as Michelle she exercises daily and is only recommending better nutrition for us all.
