Martin Shkreli: Trump Shows We Like Authenticity More Than Carefully-Made Products Like Clinton
Martin Shkreli appeared on Fox News tonight to speak with Tucker Carlson, and right off the bat Carlson had to ask the infamous pharmaceutical CEO about his tweeting.
Shkreli has tussled with celebrities on Twitter and has been about as outspoken as, well, Donald Trump.
In fact, Shkreli told Carlson that the election outcome shows people love honesty and authenticity more than “carefully trained, carefully manicured” products like Hillary Clinton. He said he can only be himself and there are other pharma CEOs who put on these “fake personas” but are worse than him.
Carlson did move on to ask Shkreli about the thing that catapulted him to public infamy: raising the price of Daraprim from $13.50 to $750. Carlson challenged him and said this sounds like a “parasite move” and even a “hostage situation.”
Shkreli argued that “it’s still barely profitable” and that he has to weigh cost and how many people have the illness, do the math, and make the decision to price the drug “where it belongs.”
When Carlson asked him about the criminal charges he’s facing, Shkreli joked about how he doesn’t have a “Bill Clinton–Loretta Lynch friendship” to get this all sorted out.
