CNN Reaches Student Inside Maryland High School on Lockdown After Shooting
CNN managed to get hold of a student inside a Maryland High School on lockdown Tuesday morning after a reported shooting.
Jonathan Freese, a high school senior at Great Mills High School in St. Mary’s County, told CNN’s John Berman that he was told seven people were wounded in the shooting, and that he and his fellow students were being held in a math class while police responded.
“I’m in my math class right now when it happened,” Jonathan told CNN. “We’ve been on lockdown for about 30 minutes or so.”
“I heard A couple people got shot at about 7 [a.m.] or so, one person supposedly dead, from what I’ve heard. At first I heard someone had put a gun against their head. I heard it was one person that got hurt trying to maybe get the gun, I’m not really sure. That’s pretty much mainly all I know in the moment. I’m still a little shaken up. I didn’t think it would really happen. It happened in the art hallway. That’s pretty much all I know at the moment.”
Great Mills High School posted a message on its website stating that there had been a shooting, but that the incident was contained:

The Sheriff’s Office said that there had been “an incident,” warned parents against responding to the school itself, instead instructing them to head to a different school:
There has been an incident at Great Mills High School. Parents please DO NOT respond to the school. Report to Leonardtown High School
