‘Not Worth Doing’: Morning Joe Laughs Off Kathy Griffin Story Before Moving On To ‘Covfefe’ Analysis
In what world is a mistyped word in a presidential tweet more newsworthy than a viral image of a known comedian holding a bloodied and disembodied head of the sitting president? The studios at MSNBC apparently.
In the first hour of Morning Joe on Thursday, the gang decided to discuss a Wall Street Journal article lamenting the decline of lunch — and we learned quite a lot about lunch habits. The New York Times’ Michael S. Schmidt said he was so busy he didn’t even eat it.
His Times colleague Nicholas Confessore seemed to agree even noting that he “missed the Kathy Griffin news last night.”
That was a third rail for Mika Brzezinski.
“Ok. We’re not talking about it,” she said to a round of laugher on the set. “I’m sorry it’s too gross. It’s just not worth doing.”
Not worth doing? Interesting.
On Wednesday, during the show, the President of the United States called out Griffin on Twitter saying that the image of the comedian holding a mock up of his decapitated head had traumatized his 11-year-old son Barron Trump.
That Tweet (so far) has not been worth covering on Morning Joe or MSNBC.
The president’s other Tweets, however, focusing on Carter Page and the the true meaning of “covfefe’ did come in for analysis during the broadcast.
After they were done snickering at the Kathy Griffin news, Brzezinski and Co. moved back to the issue of lunch and then offered this tease of where the show was going next!
“We’ll ask award winning linguist, Nicholas Confessore to help us break down the word covfefe.”
You know — coverage that’s worth doing!
You can’t make it up.
