Obama: GOP’s Holding Loretta Lynch ‘Hostage for Other Issues’
President Obama sat down for an in-depth interview with The Huffington Post’s Sam Stein today, and the first excerpt has been released. In the clip, Stein asks Obama about the Republican hold on confirming Loretta Lynch as the next attorney general and whether race is a factor.
The president brushed aside the race question and just stuck to how astounded he is at the “Senate dysfunction” keeping her from being confirmed.
Stein asked Obama if he would encourage Democrats to move on the human trafficking bill that Republicans want done first before they confirm Lynch. Obama responded by saying that’s not how this should work:
“You don’t hold attorney general nominees hostage for other issues. This is our top law enforcement office. Nobody denies that she’s well-qualified. We need to go ahead and get her done.”
