PBS Defends Airing Documentary on Late-Term Abortions
Tonight, PBS will be airing the abortion documentary After Tiller––which centers around late-term abortion doctors––and some conservatives are none too pleased. In fact, one pro-life site actually reached out to PBS for comment, and the network defended its decision to air the documentary.
After Tiller‘s title refers to Dr. George Tiller, a physician who was targeted by pro-life groups because his clinic was one of very few to provide late-term abortions to women. Five years ago, Tiller was fatally shot by activist Scott Roeder. The documentary takes a look at how few doctors in the U.S., following Tiller’s death, provide late-term abortions.
The movie, according to Rotten Tomatoes, has been well-received by critics, but obviously tackles a very controversial subject. But in comments made to LifeSiteNews, PBS defended its decision to air After Tiller.
POV told LifeSiteNews, “We do believe that ‘After Tiller’ adds another dimension to an issue that is being debated widely.” Asked if POV will show a pro-life documentary, the organization said that it “does not have any other films currently scheduled on this issue. POV received almost 1000 film submissions each year through our annual call for entries and we welcome the opportunity to consider films with a range of points of view.”
And this airing has gotten a lot of attention from conservative websites, and last week one pro-life group called on PBS to cancel the airing.
