Poll Shows Sharp Decline in Hillary’s Support Among Democratic Women
Hillary Clinton‘s support among a key demographic in the Democratic primary has sharply declined in recent weeks, according to a new poll released Monday, the latest of a string of worrying setbacks for the former secretary of state’s presidential campaign.
While Clinton has fallen victim to Sen. Bernie Sanders‘ (I-VT) rapid surge in the polls, she also may be losing support from Democratic women, who once backed her candidacy overwhelmingly.
A new Washington Post/ABC News poll shows that Clinton’s support among the key demographic has plummeted from a high of 71 percent in July to 42 percent today. That number stands at 37 percent when only considering white Democratic-leaning women, and 60 percent among non-white liberal women.
Overall, the poll has Clinton at 42 percent nationally among Democrats, down from 63 percent in July. Other recent polls show Sanders surpassing Clinton for the first time in New Hampshire and Iowa.
