Putin on MH17: Ukraine ‘Responsible for This Terrible Tragedy’
Vladimir Putin issued a statement today on the Malaysian Airlines plane believed to have been shot down by a surface-to-air missile over Ukraine. It is not completely clear who is to blame for the crash yet, but Putin said Ukraine itself holds responsibility.
In his statement (English translation courtesy of Google Translate), Putin calls the crash a “terrible tragedy” and says, “We, on behalf of the Russian government and the Russian government to express condolences to the bereaved families, the governments of those countries whose nationals were on that plane.”
However, he does note that “renewed hostilities” in Ukraine might have had to do with it and says, “And, of course, the State over whose territory it happened, is responsible for this terrible tragedy.”
