SC Officer Grabs Student in Intense Confrontation Caught on Video

An intense confrontation between a South Carolina school resource officer and a student was captured on video and blew up online today.

The video shows the officer, now identified as Ben Fields, confronting the student at her desk and telling her to get up. After a few moments, the officer grabs her arm and a struggle breaks out.

A local sheriff provided some context for what was happening in the video:

According to Sheriff Leon Lott, the school resource officer was acting in response to a student who was refusing to leave class.

“The student was told she was under arrest for disturbing school and given instructions which she again refused,” Lott said. “The video then shows the student resisting and being arrested by the SRO.”

UPDATE –– 10:05 pm EST: Fields is being placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into the incident.
